{"id":114,"date":"2013-05-28T15:20:12","date_gmt":"2013-05-28T03:20:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/?p=114"},"modified":"2019-02-11T15:31:29","modified_gmt":"2019-02-11T02:31:29","slug":"audi-rs4-digital-designs-install-abtec-lower-hutt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/audi-rs4-digital-designs-install-abtec-lower-hutt\/","title":{"rendered":"Audi RS4 Digital Designs Install @ ABTEC Lower Hutt!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Usually doing an install on an <strong>Audi<\/strong> isn\u2019t such a big thing as our Tech\u2019s do install\u2019s on\u00a0European cars almost on a daily basis, but when a regular customer that is <strong>MAD<\/strong> on <strong>DD Audio<\/strong> comes in with his <strong>Audi RS4 Avant<\/strong> I just knew this was going to be something special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just to give to some info on this customer without dropping names, he has been a loyal customer of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ABTEC<\/a><\/strong> for about three and a bit years, with install\u2019s ranging from alarm and audio in his numerous courier vans to decking out his past <strong>Holden&nbsp;Commodore<\/strong> (That happened&nbsp;to have some mental 20+ inch wheels on it) with <strong>Digital Designs<\/strong> sub-woofers, amplifiers and speakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The man even happens to have one of the most beautiful <strong>S\/C Mazda Rx3\u2019s<\/strong> I have ever seen and by now some of you would of realised who I mean and if you do know who I mean you would also know how fussy this man is! And in my opinion fussy is a good thing when it comes to car audio and cars in general!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"398\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-128\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As soon as the <strong>RS4<\/strong> was dropped off <strong>George<\/strong> and <strong>Lawrence<\/strong> got straight into it, carefully removing all the interior panels,&nbsp;fascia\u2019s and the factory stereo!&nbsp;&nbsp;The next job was to run all the cables and speaker wires through out the car, this might sound like a easy quick job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if you take into account that none of the factory wiring will be used since an amp will be doing the job of powering the <strong>DD Audio CS6.5 component speakers<\/strong> it soon becomes a lengthy job since close to twenty meters of <strong>16 gauge\u00a0oxygen-free copper speaker wire<\/strong> is used!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_5.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"398\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-129\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_5.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_5-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the wiring was sorted the boys installed two set\u2019s of <strong>DD Audio CS6.5 component speakers<\/strong> into the Audi\u2019s doors, this job is a pretty straight forward one for <strong>Lawrence<\/strong> and <strong>George<\/strong> since <strong>Audi\u2019s<\/strong> come factory with Tweeter pods built-into the door cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that the component speakers were installed it was now time for the <strong>DD Audio M1b Mono-Block Amplifier<\/strong> (That will be running the Digital Designs sub-woofers) and the <strong>JVC 4-Channel Amplifier<\/strong> (That is running the Digital Designs component speakers) to be installed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its almost like <strong>Audi<\/strong> intended the RS4\u2019s to have a <strong>MAD Digital Designs<\/strong> install done to them since in boot compartment there is good space for a couple of amplifiers, only slight modification was needed to fit the <strong>DD Audio M1b Mono-Block<\/strong> and if you have ever handled any of the <strong>DD M-Series amplifiers<\/strong> you will understand how robust they are size wise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-130\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_2-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With the wiring, speakers and amplifiers all sorted it was now time to sort the head-unit out. Like most European cars the fascia-plate needed to be replaced to be able to fit the new stereo and also a amplified-aerial adaptor needed to be fitted so the aerial could connect to the stereo without any issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The stereo of choice was a <strong>Alpine IVA-W520E<\/strong> and I must say it was a good choice since when I hear the words <strong>Alpine<\/strong> I seem to think European cars, the <strong>Alpine IVA-W520E<\/strong> is also <strong>IMPRINT\u00a0<\/strong>(Alpines 5.1 Surround) Ready too if are that way inclined and willing to pay a little bit extra for 5.1 surround.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_6.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_6.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_6.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_6-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now for the final touch, time to call in <strong>Ashley \u2018MAD BASS\u2019 Burrell<\/strong> to design and install the dual\u00a010\u2033\u00a0box that is housing two <strong>DD Audio 3510-D2 sub-woofers<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m sure by now you have noticed that the colour of the right sub-woofer is different to the one on the left, this is because we only had one <strong>DD Audio 3510-D2<\/strong> in stock till our next shipment had arrived so <strong>Ashley<\/strong> offered the use of his one in the mean time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another thing you might of noticed is that the box isn\u2019t carpeted like most sub boxes, <strong>Ashley<\/strong> convinced the owner to go against the grain with this one and have the box professionally\u00a0upholstered in leather. And after seeing the end result I wish I wasn\u2019t so\u00a0impatient and got my own boxes upholstered this way!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_7.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_7.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-132\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_7.jpg 600w, https:\/\/hifihq.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Audi_7-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I can reassure you this\u00a0<strong>Audi RS4<\/strong>\u00a0sounds absolutely beautiful now and its owner is just as stoked as we were with the way it sounded!
